Sydney City Council is launching a major tree planting program aimed at increasing the tree canopy coverage across the city by 50 per cent over the next 20 years. Under the draft Street Tree Master Plan, the City will plant thousands of native and exotic trees to improve the quality of open and public space and improve the health of the community and the environment.

The City has proposed a selection from 69 different tree species to suit the soil and landscape conditions while also remaining sympathetic to existing trees and the character of local streets.
