Tree Growing Project: Fresh Figs for Sydney!

In arguably one of Australia's most prestigious tree contracts, Bangalow Wholesale Nursery is working in conjunction with Trees Impact P/L to ensure the future continuity of the historic Hill’s Weeping Figs in Sydney's Central Avenue, Hyde Park (Left).

Planted in the 1930's, the figs (Ficus microcarpa var Hillii) are diseased and are reaching the end of their safe useful life span. Some have fallen over or been removed as they became dangerous and unstable.

With love and care, cuttings taken from historic fig trees in Sydney's Domain/Art Gallery precinct are being grown through to 500L to 1000L sizes on two nursery sites - one on the Central Coast NSW and the other at Bangalow Wholesale, just north of Ballina in northern NSW. The figs will be dispatched from 2015 to 2017 to begin the process of renewal.

The full story and progress of the "Hyde Park Figs" can be tracked on Sydney City Council's website;
